The Central Laboratory for Veterinary Services is the first-line laboratory for certain Departmental Directorates for the Protection of Populations (DDPPs) in the Île-de-France region (départements 75, 91, 92, 93 and 94) for all official control analyses in the area of food safety, in accordance with the agreement signed with the Paris Police Prefecture and the Directorate General for Food (DGAL). It carries out investigations as part of outbreaks or sporadic cases of food poisoning, border controls, regulatory analyses, and surveillance and control plans.

The LCSV unit centralises all requests from the DDPPs. It performs routine microbiological analyses (enumeration and detection of hygiene indicator and pathogenic bacteria). The unit has been accredited by the French Accreditation Committee (COFRAC) since 2009 for all conventional microbiological analyses. It is also accredited by the DGAL for official analyses in the area of food microbiology. To meet the DDPPs’ expectations, in particular in terms of responsiveness, the unit is enriching its service catalogue.

Furthermore, the unit is a point of access for the other types of analyses that are carried out in other units (virological analyses, bacterial characterisation, measurement of various chemical contaminants, detection and identification of parasites).
